The beginning of the academic year at the Academy on the occasion of World Tourism Day!
World Tourism Day is officially celebrated every year on September 27, the day when the Statutes of the World Tourism Organization - UNWTO (today UN Tourism) were adopted in 1970, which laid the foundation for the institutional development of tourism on a global level.
The first official celebration of World Tourism Day was held in 1980, and since then this date has symbolized the importance of tourism for economic, social, cultural and political development around the world.
In 2025, the central global celebration of World Tourism Day takes place from 27 to 29 September in Melaka, Malaysia, under the theme: "Tourism and Sustainable Transformation".
The Academy of Hospitality, Tourism and Wellness has been an associate member of the World Tourism Organization - UN Tourism since May 2025, which confirms its international reputation and commitment to the highest standards of education in tourism. The Academy of Hospitality, Tourism and Wellness proudly celebrates World Tourism Day on Monday, September 29, 2025, as part of the reception of a new generation of freshmen and the start of classes in basic academic studies.
Why is education in tourism important?
Education in tourism has a crucial role in shaping the future of tourism in our country as well as internationally. Modern tourism requires experts who understand the complexity of global trends, sustainability, digitization and the needs of modern tourists. Quality education enables the development of innovative leaders, managers and entrepreneurs, who are able to respond to the challenges of sustainable development, improve the competitiveness of the destination and contribute to the preservation of cultural and natural heritage. The Academy for Hotel Management, Tourism and Wellness, through cooperation with UN Tourism and the application of modern teaching methods, enables students to acquire knowledge and skills that are recognized and appreciated at the international level. Tourism is much more than travel – it is an instrument for improving the quality of life, preserving cultural and natural heritage, but also a platform for economic growth and employment.
Considering this year's theme of World Tourism Day - "Tourism and sustainable transformation", it is clear that the sustainable future of tourism requires connecting the principles of circular economy, digital innovation and social responsibility, with continuous improvement of education and research.
