Savindan (St. Sava’s Day) – a day of knowledge and enlightenment

Today, January 27 (i.e., January 14 according to the old calendar), we celebrate Savindan, one of the most significant holidays of the Serbian Orthodox Church and the official school patron day.

On this day in 1236, Saint Sava – Rastko Nemanjić, the first Serbian Archbishop, educator, and founder of Serbian educational and cultural thought, passed away.

By the decision of 1840, Saint Sava was proclaimed the protector of all schools in Serbia, becoming an enduring symbol of education, upbringing, and moral values.

On Savindan, we celebrate knowledge as the foundation of society, teachers as guides, and students as the future.

Happy School Patron Day!
